Ruabon railway station sits on the Shrewsbury to Chester line, opened in November 1846, with station buildings originally designed in an Italianate style by the architect Thomas Penson and refurbished in 2009. Transport for Wales runs at least one direct train an hour, reaching Wrexham General in around six minutes and Shrewsbury in around twenty-nine, making Ruabon one of the easiest villages in the area to reach without a car — in fact it's the second-busiest station in Wrexham County Borough by passenger numbers, after Wrexham General itself.
Ruabon sits directly on the A483, roughly five miles south of Wrexham and six miles from both Llangollen and Chirk, making it a straightforward stop for anyone driving through the Dee Valley or approaching Snowdonia from the English Midlands. Ruabon railway station doubles as the village's bus interchange, so local and regional bus routes connect directly with train arrivals and departures rather than requiring a separate stop elsewhere in the village — useful for reaching Acrefair, Cefn Mawr, Rhosllannerchrugog and other villages not directly on the railway.
Ruabon itself is small enough to cover entirely on foot: St Mary's Church, the Wynnstay Arms and the village centre are all within a five-minute walk of the station.
